CRIME STOP
Due to circumstances the bi-weekly
meeting at the Police station for sector managers was postponed
until next Tuesday 22 January. I can only mention at this
stage that crime in Bitou was at a relatively low level but that
there seems to be a trend for stealing vehicles. It is not
uncommon for this to occur shortly after the end of a festive
season. Five cars were stolen recently but four of them were
recovered. In view of the above here are some security tips
on
how to hopefully prevent car theft. PARK
your vehicle in a safe place that is well lit if not parked in a
garage or behind locked gates. Have a tracker or an alarm and
immobilizer system, remember to activate them before
leaving the car. Do not leave any
valuables that are visible in the vehicle and put them in the
boot. Use the steering wheel or gear lock at all times as this
is a visible deterrent to any thief. Have a lockable petrol cap.
Avoid leaving important documents, registration papers, cheque
books, credit cards and firearms in the car even when these
items are out of sight. Radios and CD's are also sought
after by criminals.
Always keep your vehicle in a mechanically sound condition in order to
avoid having to stop in unfamiliar places. This is when you are
most vulnerable.
Finally useful things to have in your car are jumper
leads, torch or spotlight, medical alert information and first
aid kit and a fire extinguisher that is suitable for vehicle
fires.
