EDITORS’ LETTER

It seems to be business as usual for most of us. Well, at least for me that is.

Our heartfelt thanks to the NSRI for rescuing multitudes of people during the holiday’s last year. Ray and his team surely deserve a big thanks. Our beaches were busier than ever, and a lot cleaner too thanks to Vodacom for their beach cleaning effort. Seven beaches in the Eastern Cape , including ours, benefited from the Vodacom Beach Cleanup and a whopping 13 411 bags were collected in this area. In total the campaign bagged about 37 558 of rubbish along the South African coastline. Besides the normal items one would expect littered on a beach, the campaign also bagged a few bizarre looking items like shoes, kids toys, a wig, tyres, nappies and virtually a whole bicycle that washed up on a beach.

I had the privilege of meeting Colin Clarke. He has been a resident of Plett for the past 40 years. He and his wife, Joy are celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary this week. The Bitou News team wishes them many blessings!

Our schools are up and running and we wish all learners a very fruitful academic year.
