THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IN THE BOOK OF JOSHUA
(IV):
The first half of the Book of Joshua is mainly occupied
with the Key-note of VICTORY. The second half mainly with the
Key-note of POSSESSION. Although “all things are ours” in
Jesus Christ, we still need to take possession of them by faith.
The promise to the children of Israel was that every place that
the sole of their foot should tread, should be theirs.
THE SLACKNESS OF THE PEOPLE:
In Joshua 18:3 however we see a SLACKNESS
on the part of Israel to possess the land which the Lord had
given them. “ Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways
and be wise.” Proverbs 6:6) “ The hand of the diligent will
rule, but the LAZY man will be put to forced labor” (Proverbs
12:24) The ant is an example of industry, diligence, planning
and co-operation and serves as a rebuke to the sluggard. Is
there not a slackness and laziness these days even amongst
children of God to diligently get involved in the work of the
Master, stand on the promises of God and claim all the Spiritual
riches in our Lord Jesus Christ! (Ephesians 1:3)
JOSHUA'S EXHORTATION:
The Book closes with Joshua's exhortation
to the people. He reminds them that it is God who has fought the
battle for them. He exhorts them to keep all that is written in
the Law of Moses and to serve the Lord with all their heart! He
invites them to choose this day whom they will serve, but adds
his own resolution:”As for me and my house, we will serve the
Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) He
chose to serve the living God at all cost and not any false or
worldly gods. Is my choice to follow Jesus wholeheartedly a
clear and final choice?
CHRIST MY PERSONAL JOSHUA:
Joshua died at the age of hundred and ten
years, leaving a character without blemish. My Joshua never
dies. He arose and is alive! He brings me into the promised Land
and as I abide under His Leadership I shall overcome all my
enemies and be victorious.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
