The Lord Jesus Christ in the book
of Judges
In
this Book we come to one of the darkest periods in the history
of God's people.
The
latter part of the first chapter is a record of total FAILURE.
We read of one tribe after another that did not completely drive
out the Canaanites. They were unfaithful and disobedient.
“Then the children of
Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals
and they forsook the Lord God …and they provoked the Lord to
anger.” (Judges 2:11-23)
THE RESULT OF
DISOBEDIENCE AND UNFAITHFULNESS:
What
happens if I ignore and reject the Word of God in disobedience?
The same as the Book of Judges:
1.God delivered them into
the hands of plunderers who despoiled them. (Judges 2:14)
2.He
sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that
they could no longer stand before their enemies.
3.Wherever
they went out, the Hand of the Lord was against them for
calamity. (Judges 2:15)
4.They
fell into idolatry.(The Bible says covetousness is idolatry!)
5.God
allowed the very sins they indulged in to be their punishment.
Is this not exactly what is happening to so many people today
who turned their back on the Holy Word of God and ignore the
Gospel of Salvation?
GOD'S
CONTINUED PATIENCE AND GRACE:
What a picture of my
continued sins and failures and Christ's continued patience and
wonderful grace! We read of seven distinct departures from God,
and of seven distinct deliverances by the hands of the different
judges.” In Him we have redemption through His Blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His GRACE.”
(Ephesians 1:7; Acts 15:11; Eph 2:5-8.)
A
PERSONAL SAVIOUR:
In these deliverers or judges of Israel we clearly see a
foreshadow of the GREAT DELIVERER who was to come to the world.
“He will send them a Saviour and a Mighty One, and He will
deliver them” (Isaiah 19:20)
A SAVIOUR: “Unto you is born….a Saviour …Christ the
Lord.” (Luke 2:11) THE SAVIOUR: “..this is indeed the
Christ, the Saviour of the world.” (John 4;42) MY SAVIOUR:
“..my spirit has rejoiced in God MY Saviour.” (Luke
1:47)
IS HE
REALLY MY PERSONAL SAVIOUR?
