Lookout
Beach
a new natural small boat harbour for Plett?
Lookout Beach parking lot
may partly be something of the past, but it has become a
fisherman's haven. Many fishermen I spoke to last week said the
recent floods were a blessing in disguise. During certain times
of the day, many fishermen flock to what was once a parking lot
to reel in their catch of the day.
Most fishermen agree
that the beach is a perfect fishing spot, and even a
better spot for a natural small boat harbour. It is now easy for
boats to launch because you don't have to wait for low tide.
Could this be a new spot
for a small boat harbour? If you'd like to comment on this

Lastly! Are you one of
the thousands who still owe the municipality traffic fine
payments? A whopping R27-million in unpaid traffic fines, most
of them for speeding violations, for the 2006 and 2007 financial
year, is still outstanding. Makes one wonder….
Letter to the Editor
Makes you think
- doesn't it?
Did you know that
by replacing your normal light bulbs (60 watt) with a 11 watt
energy saver lamp, you can contribute significantly to eliminate
loadshedding and life can return back to normal.
Consider this:
If 2500 households in
Plett replace 12 60 watt lamps with energy saving the saving
will be:
2 500 X 60 X 12
= 1 800 kilowatt
2 500 X 11 X 12
= 330 kilowatt
SAVING
= 1470 kilowatt
Assume lamps burn six
hours a day then 1 470 x 6 = 8820 kilowatt hours @ 24 cents /
kilowatt = R21 168
SAVING 365 days = R772
632 per annum
Average saving
per household will be R309.05 per annum
If 2 500 households in Plett replace three
60 watt lamps with 11 watt energy saving bulbs the saving
will be:
2500 X 60 X 3 =
450 kilowatt
2500 X 11 X 3
=
82.5 kilowatt
SAVING
= 367.5 kilowatt
Assume lamps burn six
hours a day then 367.5 x 6 = 2 205 kilowatt hours @ 45 cents /
kilowatt = R992.25
SAVING over a 365 period
= R362171
Average saving
per household = R144.87 per annum.
Adding : 1470 kilowatt +
367.5 kilowatt = 1837.5 kilowatt
Let's show the rest of
the Garden Route it can be done. If we can save 1.84 Megawatt a
day if will contribute significantly towards saving electricity.
If all towns can follow our concept we will eliminate the need
for unnecessary loadshedding.
