Local actor hosts acting workshops at Plett Primary

 Francois du Plessis

Local actor, Stuart Palmer and the Grade 7 learners are having loads of fun. Stuart was invited by Plett Primary to develop a number of theatre pieces based on the six key values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and good citizenship. These theatre pieces will form the basis of the drama curriculum evaluation at the end of the first term when a special evening showcasing the pieces is being organized for parents and friends.

Caught in the act - Stuart  and his team

Says Stuart, "My aim is to develop theatre skills and create performances, develop learner's self-confidence, thereby encouraging their creativity and instilling a strong focus on self-expression.”

Stuart, who founded the Lunchbox Theatre last year, said that he focuses on school-based theatre events that explore topics that are currently relevant to South African youth. These take the form of theatre shows and drama workshops at schools. He firmly believes in an interactive learning experience that is both entertaining and educational. The shows use a variety of theatrical styles that ensure an engaging experience for learners and teachers alike.

Stuart has been involved in theatre for over 25 years. His passion for theatre turned professional ten years ago and he has not looked back since. He has been involved in many film and theatre productions as actor, director, writer, producer and company director.  Stuart was at the helm of Jungle Theatre Company in Cape Town for seven years and gained extensive experience in community and school based educational theatre. Having also spent three years in retail management and even as an English teacher, Stuart now combines all his life experiences and piles them into Lunchbox Theatre.
