Taking care of mom and
the baby

National Pregnancy Week
this year runs from 16 to 23 February and Medi Clinics
nationwide are once again participating in the Medi-Twinkle
programme. Expecting mothers and their partners will be educated
about pregnancy, birth and baby care. The focus will also
include the role of the father throughout the entire process.
Says Lawrene Zander, Hospital Manager at the Plettenberg
Bay Medi Clinic, "Apart from making our mothers and their
babies feel welcome at Medi-Clinic, we want to educate mothers
and their birth partners on these responsibilities, and to guide
them through this very special time in their lives." She
added that despite a wealth of information available to mothers,
there is still a large number of expecting mothers who do not
fully understand their responsibilities in terms of the health
and well-being of themselves and their unborn babies.
Through the programme mothers and their birth partners
have access to a series of antenatal classes. Here childbirth
educators such as midwives, gynaecologists, physiotherapists,
dieticians and chemists explain the responsibilities of
parenting in a practical manner.
The first session started last week and was attended by
four Plettenberg Bay mothers-to-be.
