Million
Dollar Pigeon Race Auction to be held in Plett
Following
the success of the recently held annual Million Dollar Pigeon
Race at Sun
City two weeks ago, the local Plettenberg Bay Pigeon Club will
be hosting its own auction next month at Market Square. Over 36
countries participated in the race and now Plettenberg Bay will
be having its own auction.
Says
Roger Harris of the Plettenberg Bay Pigeon Club, which forms
part of the Southern Cape Region, “after the Sun City race,
the first hundred pigeons are auctioned on the last day of the
event. One pigeon, who was a top performer at Sun City fetched a
world-record price of R800 000. Pigeons from all over the world,
including from Germany, the US and South Africa were
auctioned.”
Says
Harris, “The remaining birds that completed the race are sent
to the various clubs in various regions, where they are
auctioned. At least 30 birds will be arriving in Plettenberg Bay
from Johannesburg on Friday.
The
auction takes place at Market Square, Plettenberg Bay on 1
March.
Viewing
of the pigeons start at 12:00 and the auction starts at 14:00.
