Main street upgrade
The
work and the delivery of materials are on schedule. I have
received some phone calls suggesting certain changes in
procedure but in the main residents seem satisfied with the
progress. A caller was not happy with the parking of cars on the
sea side (ABSA Bank) and was convinced that the larger vehicles
could cause damage trying to maneuver their truck through the
one way.
Other
issues, not directly related with the upgrade, were mentioned
such as the filthy state of Church Street and the excessive
noise of the generator located at the Checkers Centre. All these
issues will have been discussed at the steering committee
meeting last Tuesday.
A very
worrying aspect relating to traffic is that some 'wise guys'
take pleasure in ignoring the one way signs when coming up
Church Street and go the opposite way. Other vehicles ignore
pedestrian safety by parking right on the pedestrian crossing. I
will in future take photos of the culprits and liaise with the
traffic department to see if such drivers can be penalized after
the event. Please, obey the traffic rules, someone could be
badly hurt or even killed. Be patient, within three months
everything will be in place and our Main Street will become a
positive talking point with local and overseas tourists.
We
thank you for your attention,
Ald.
